The Mar del Plata International Film Festival continues with a lineup for every taste. This Saturday, November 8, the second day featured appearances by acclaimed artists such as actress Lola Ponce, actor Aar\u00f3n D\u00edaz, and comedian Jos\u00e9 Mar\u00eda Listorti, along with special activities led by Marcela L\u00f3pez Rey and Bill Condon, and screenings in the competitive sections, which make this prestigious event shine with extraordinary moments.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The weekend began with a morning full of outstanding feature films. At the Astor Piazzolla Hall, the International Competition screened Calle M\u00e1laga<\/strong><\/em>, directed by Maryam Touzani. Meanwhile, at Cine Paseo Aldrey, the Argentine Competition continued with The Letter<\/strong><\/em>, by Rodrigo Hern\u00e1n Vila, who engaged in a post-screening discussion with the audience. At the same time, in the neighboring theater, actress Lola Ponce and actor Aar\u00f3n D\u00edaz did the same following the screening of Espina<\/strong><\/em>, by Daniel Poler.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When asked about her participation in the Festival representing the film running in the Latin American Competition, Ponce stated: \u201cIt\u2019s always a pleasure to return to my country and present such a beautiful project. I feel grateful and deeply moved by all the love I\u2019ve received<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Around midday, Bill Condon<\/strong>, Tonatiuh Elizarraraz<\/strong>, Marcela L\u00f3pez Rey<\/strong>, and Juan Pablo Canala<\/strong> held a talk on Manuel Puig<\/strong>, discussing cinematic adaptation and perspectives on the Argentine writer\u2019s work. It is worth noting that L\u00f3pez Rey was a close friend of Puig. The artist recalled: \u201cHe wasn\u2019t easy to understand\u2014he once told me that when he felt very sad, he would look at the notes he had taped to his wardrobe, each one marking happy moments in his life<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Also part of the special activities, film critic Carlos Morelli<\/strong> gave a presentation at the Rambla Hall of the Casino Central on his life and connection to the seventh art. Later that day, the same venue hosted U.S. film producer Paul Zaentz<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

actress Leticia Br\u00e9dice<\/strong> and Mart\u00edn Bielinsky<\/strong>, son of late director Fabi\u00e1n Bielinsky<\/strong>, presented the short film La Espera<\/strong><\/em> (1983) and the feature Nine Queens<\/em> <\/strong>(2000), screened back to back. The young Bielinsky expressed: \u201cIt moves me to see how people have embraced the film and turned it into a part of Argentine cinema that, ultimately, belongs to everyone<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the afternoon, film enthusiasts enjoyed the Argentine family comedy El novio de mam\u00e1<\/strong><\/em>, starring Jos\u00e9 Mar\u00eda Listorti <\/strong>and Dani \u201cLa Chepi\u201d<\/strong>. The comedian invited everyone to \u201ccome to the Mar del Plata Festival<\/em>,\u201d adding that it truly is \u201ca luxury<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile, Marilina Ross<\/strong>, recipient of the Silver Astor Award at this year\u2019s opening ceremony, was deeply moved as she presented La Raulito<\/strong><\/em>, the classic by Lautaro Mur\u00faa, within the Mar del Plata Classics<\/strong> section. The screening took place at 7:30 p.m. in the historic Teatro Col\u00f3n. Ross shared: \u201cI spent five years looking for someone to produce the film until Sabina Sigler agreed to do it and Lautaro Mur\u00faa agreed to direct it. But when he saw me, he said he didn\u2019t see me in the role. I had to audition, and after that, La Raulito began its journey<\/em>,\u201d concluded the actress and singer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The evening continued with Cristina Banegas <\/strong>and Pablo Rago <\/strong>presenting the series Yiya <\/strong><\/em>at Cine Aldrey, where attendees were able to engage with them in a Q&A session. Banegas highlighted: \u201cYiya is part of our national culture. We tell the story of the last part of her life, when she kept lying, claiming she was innocent\u2014something quite common among psychopaths<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In turn, Rago added: \u201cIt\u2019s the first time Cristina and I have worked together, and it was a real pleasure. We\u2019re proud of what we accomplished<\/em>.\u201dThe day came to an end with the premiere of Criollos<\/strong><\/em>, a documentary by Mat\u00edas Tamborenea<\/strong>, selected for the Argentine Competition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
