The 40th<\/sup> edition of the Mar del Plata International Film Festival continues to unfold with an array of fascinating proposals in this celebration of the seventh art.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Sunday, November 9, the third day began with the International Competition at the Astor Piazzolla Hall, featuring Ungrateful Beings<\/strong><\/em> by director Olmo Omerzu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the morning, two highly anticipated moments took place at Cine Paseo Aldrey. On one hand, Pensamiento Lateral<\/em> <\/strong>by Mariano Hueter was screened, with the presence of actresses Itziar Itu\u00f1o and Agostina Inella, Argentine director Hueter, producer Estela Roberta S\u00e1nchez, and actor Mauricio Paniagua. Later, the film had another sold-out screening at the Teatro Col\u00f3n in Mar del Plata at 7:30 p.m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When talking about the film, which is part of the Argentine Competition, Itu\u00f1o stated: \u201cThe hardest part of the work was emotional, rather than physical. Fortunately, I\u2019ve never experienced what my character went through. It was a real challenge<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile, in the Latin American Competition, Chilean actor Benjam\u00edn Vicu\u00f1a and producer Max Gandarillas presented Rey del Ring<\/strong><\/em> with great enthusiasm. Vicu\u00f1a said: \u201cWe believe this is a film that moves people and that has been very well received since its premiere<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the afternoon, the Teatro Auditorium filled up once again for the screening of La casa<\/strong><\/em>, a film by Gustavo Trivi\u00f1o, which received a resounding applause and is quickly emerging as one of the favorites for the Astor Piazzolla Audience Award. Trivi\u00f1o\u2019s film competes in the International Competition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among the day\u2019s highlights was also Bel\u00e9n<\/strong><\/em>, directed by Dolores Fonzi, which will represent Argentina at the 2026 Academy Awards. It was one of the most attended screenings of the day, both in its 4:50 p.m. showing and later that evening at the Victoria Ocampo Cultural Center, with free admission and the presence of actress Liliana Ju\u00e1rez, who said: \u201cIt\u2019s very moving for me to be here. I play Bel\u00e9n\u2019s mother, and we believe it\u2019s possible to be an authentic and free woman<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Special activities also continued at the Rambla Hall of the Casino Central. This time, Hugo Grosso, director of Donde comienza el camino<\/strong><\/em>, and Lorena Yenni, director of Birrilata, una vuelta en tren<\/strong><\/em>, opened a discussion panel about Fernando Birri. Afterwards, a talk was held on the future of Israeli cinema, with the participation of Aviv Ben Shlush (producer of Oxygen<\/strong><\/em>), Jorge Weller (director of Hola! Chau…<\/strong><\/em>), Elisa Dor (screenwriter of Hola! Chau…<\/strong><\/em>), Michal Giladi (producer of Estate<\/strong><\/em>), Yaakov Zada-Daniel (actor in Estate<\/strong><\/em>), and Hedva Goldschmidt (producer of A Letter to David<\/strong><\/em>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Spanish filmmaker Carlos Larraz\u00e1bal, director of Malec\u00f3n<\/strong><\/em>, and producer Jaime Otero Romani held a discussion with the audience, sharing: \u201cIt\u2019s a story about friendship and loyalty. We made it with great respect\u2014the entire crew was Cuban<\/em>.\u201d The film is part of the Latin American Competition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As for the non-competitive Authors section, at the Ambassador Cinema, the documentary The Passenger Andrzej Munk <\/strong><\/em>by Micha\u0142 Bielawski was screened. Bielawski commented: \u201cFor many years, I heard about this Festival. It\u2019s my first time here, and it\u2019s very meaningful because the protagonist of my film participated in it back in 1957<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Finally, the night closed with the 50th<\/sup> anniversary celebration of the classic The Rocky Horror Picture Show<\/strong><\/em> at the historic theater located at C\u00f3rdoba 1673. True to Hollywood style, audience members came in costume and were surprised by a group of actors who reenacted the film\u2019s characters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The celebration of cinema continues in Mar del Plata through November 16, accompanied by the Secretariat of Culture of the Nation, with each day bringing new surprises to this ever-evolving festival.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
