The Festival Presents “Pearls: Outstanding Works from National Festivals”

During the 40th edition of the Mar del Plata International Film Festival, this special showcase—which began on November 11 and will continue through November 13—will take place at Cine Ambassador – Sala 2 (Córdoba 1673).

It is worth noting that this is the first edition to dedicate an exclusive space to national festivals, with the aim of highlighting the programming, promotion, and audiovisual development work carried out across the country while strengthening collaboration and exchange.

This section presents a selection of films that reflect both the diversity and quality of Argentine and Latin American cinema featured in festivals throughout the country. Each screening will also be accompanied by a discussion with the directors of the participating festivals.

The program for Wednesday, November 12, will open at 2:30 p.m. with I Don’t Want to See the Sun, I Want to See the Sun, by Constanza Epifanio (Semana de Cine Argentino – Salta), accompanied by Federico Casoni (festival representative); For the Soda, by Emiliano Goyeneche (Semana de Cine Argentino – Salta); The Little Panthers, by Alejandro Gallo Bermúdez (Semana de Cine Argentino – Salta); La Cerrillana, by Andrea Urquiola (Semana de Cine Argentino – Salta); and No Time for Carnaval, by Tadeo Pestaña Caro and Kevin Havas.

At 5:00 p.m., Reas by Lola Arias (Cine a la Vista – Neuquén) will be screened, with the attendance of Cintia Laura Aguirre (lead actress) and Nora Di Domenica (festival director). The day will conclude at 8:00 p.m. with Antártica – Domain One, by Joaquín and Julián Azulay (MAFICI – Chubut), who will attend alongside Valeria Malatino and Damián Martínez (festival directors).

The cycle will close on Thursday, November 13, with The Time Between Us, by Agostina Colantuoni (Tucumán Cine), at 2:30 p.m., presented by Héctor Sáenz (producer) and Humberto Salazar (festival representative). At 5:00 p.m., Yana-Wara by Tito and Óscar Catacora (Cine de las Alturas – Jujuy) will be screened, with the participation of Soledad Sanjulián (festival director). Finally, at 8:00 p.m., Amei Te Ver and Y La intensa lluvia, by Ricardo García and Guillermo Rovira (Oberá en Cortos – Misiones) will be presented, with the attendance of Guillermo Rovira and Laura Zapalowski (festival director).

As part of this section, a special activity titled “Panorama of Cultural Management: Directors of National Festivals” will take place on November 13 at 11:00 a.m. at Sala La Rambla, Casino Central (Bv. Marítimo Peralta Ramos 2148, Mar del Plata).

The meeting will bring together directors and representatives from festivals across different regions of the country, who will present their events and share experiences on the challenges and contributions of cultural management within the film industry. Open to the public and free of charge, this event aims to foster reflection and exchange on the impact of film festivals in the development of Argentina’s audiovisual sector.Participants include Soledad Sanjulián (Cine de las Alturas – Jujuy), Federico Casoni (Semana de Cine Argentino – Salta), Adrián Biasiori (Mirada Oeste – Mendoza), Laura Zapalowski (Oberá en Cortos – Misiones), Nora Di Domenica (Cine a la Vista – Neuquén), Diego Carriqueo (FAB – Río Negro), Valeria Malatino (MAFICI – Chubut), Guillermo Barbarov (FICER – Entre Ríos), Aureliano Rodríguez Gómez (Cine en Grande – Tierra del Fuego), and Humberto Salazar (Tucumán Cine – Tucumán).
