Independent Awards: All the Winners

ACCA – Argentine Film Critics Association
ACCA Award for Best Argentine Film Across All Competitions
The House, by Gustavo Triviño
Jury Statement:
“For crafting a narrative rooted in a situation that feels increasingly common today, drawing its protagonist into a disturbing and murky world. The story of an unemployed man becomes a lens through which to portray a disconcerting, decaying, and violent social climate. The moral dilemmas faced by the protagonist challenge the audience, prompting each viewer to consider what choices they would make at every twist of the script. The film’s overall execution and the remarkable performances by the entire cast make The House deserving of this award.”
FNA – National Arts Fund
FNA Award for Best Short Film in the Argentine Competition
The Edge of Things, by Justo Dell Acqua
Jury Statement:
“For an outstanding ensemble cast whose characters wander through the night of a fragmented story, seeking to escape the solitude of their lives. The edges left unseen by a precise and intelligent script are completed by the audience, guided by the director’s sensitive vision, which succeeds in uniting the seemingly scattered storylines in an improbable encounter with a lost love, a forbidden love—or perhaps a love imagined.”
RECAM – Specialized Meeting of Film and Audiovisual Authorities of MERCOSUR
RECAM Award for Best MERCOSUR Short Film
Meanwhile, by Flor Berthold y Carla Scatarelli
Jury Statement:
“For the depth of its message in an intimate conversation between Diana Piazzolla and her father, the great musician Astor Piazzolla. With remarkable cinematography and an inspiring approach that blends sensitivity and simplicity.”
SIGNIS – World Catholic Association for Communication
SIGNIS Award for Best Film in the Official International Competition
Flood, by Martin Gonda
Jury Statement:
“For its masterful portrayal of a rural community overwhelmed by an environmental crisis that forces a migration to an urban center. Within that context, a young woman defends her emancipation with remarkable strength as she confronts her father’s sudden disability, choosing to care for him despite the conflict in their bond, while never abandoning her deep vocation. Mara, the protagonist, embodies a synthesis of solidarity and personal freedom.”
SIGNIS Special Mention
Gioia, by Nicolangelo Gelormini
Jury Statement:
“For offering a work of accomplished narrative craft in which an adolescent whose rights have been violated by his own family forms a bond with a teacher immersed in profound loneliness. Together they inhabit a story of emotional closeness in recognizing the other—though not strong enough to redeem them. The film prompts deep reflection on the responsibility society must assume toward children deprived of love.”
FIPRESCI – International Federation of Film Critics
FIPRESCI Award for Best Film in the Latin American Competition
Night Stage, byFilipe Matzembacher and Marcio Reolon
Jury Statement:
“For its ability to navigate the elusive intersection between reality and dreams, for its bold direction and clever blending of genres, for its playful narrative, and its exploration of performance on multiple levels.”
