Synopsis

In postwar Japan, the Maeda family lives in a bleak apartment and pretends to be poor during a visit from Katori, the president of their son Minoru?s company, who comes to accuse Minoru of embezzling a million yen. After he leaves, they reveal hidden luxuries. Half of the money is in the hands of Mitani, a discreet accountant who seduces men for personal gain. She escapes legal trouble and retires in comfort, leaving the men to face the consequences.

Yûzô Kawashima

Yûzô Kawashima joined Shochiku in 1938 and debuted with The Man Who Has Returned (1944). Known for his witty comedies and ?positive escapism,? he thrived at Nikkatsu with works like Suzaki Paradise (1956) and Sun in the Last Days of the Shogunate (1957). He passed away in 1963.
