Synopsis

Koen is an untrained geisha who lives a life defined by transactional relationships. Only Maki, a young student, sees her beyond her role. After being abandoned by a client, she reconnects with Maki, revealing her real name, Tomoko. Her transformation begins when she becomes a bar hostess, gains independence, and starts a relationship with Tsutsui, who urges her to build a future. When she betrays him, Tsutsui?s emotional reaction awakens her capacity for love. Inspired, she starts a singing career. When Tsutsui dies, she returns to geisha work. In the end, Koen chooses solitude and reflection, recognizing her humanity and the evolving roles of women in post-war Japan.
