Synopsis
A writer ends up in prison, after a crazy and unexpected crime. Getting to know her young fellow inmates becomes a sort of rebirth for her. Having been released, in a torrid Roman summer in which time seems to be suspended, the writer continues to meet the women whom she had befriended and who, like her, are now outside. A profound friendship is born, one that is decisive for her life and that no one on the outside will be able to understand. The writer is Goliarda Sapienza and this is her story, as she wrote it.
Mario Martone
Mario Martone made his debut with Death of a Neapolitan Mathematician (1992), which won the Grand Jury Prize in Venice. Nasty Love (1995) and Nostalgia (2022) competed at Cannes. His films often portray the lives of artists. He also directs theatre and opera in Italy and abroad.
